Travel Stroller Honest Review: Mountain Buggy Nano

We had been in the market for a travel stroller/travel pram for quite some time. Before having our baby, we managed a second-hand Silver Cross Wave. While we love it, it does serve a specific purpose and that purpose is not anything to do with traveling. We needed something smaller that could come with us on the Underground and could be popped in our small car as well. So we were delighted to get the Mountain Buggy Nano travel stroller/pram and, after having had it for almost 6 months now, here is my honest review.

Pros:

It is so light

Being that the tube station near us doesn’t have a lift, it was crucial that we be able to carry everything up and down stairs. While there are usually kind people who offer to help me when I’m alone, being able to carry everything up and down the stairs by myself is so important to me. It also means that if we can’t/don’t want to use the pram, we can just fold it up. This happened on our trip to Cyprus when an activity we’d chosen was less suitable for the pram than expected. Was so nice to be able to just pop it on my shoulder and still get to walk around the site. I do however wish that it were two backpack straps rather than one shoulder strap so, Mountain Buggy, if you’re reading this, hook ya girl up.

Holds a lot

I also really appreciate that it can hold a really decent amount in the bottom and how the extra netting at the top makes a quick little pocket for me to pop my phone or keys for quick access. I can pop a whole backpack under the pram full of all the diapers, wipes, snacks, toys, water, etc that we need for our kiddo which is so much easier than having to carry it around on my back the whole time.

It is small

While I usually gate-check it anyway (so that I don’t have to bother with it on the plane) I do love the option for it to be able to fit in the overhead bin. It also means it’s so easy to take to the tiny little European cafes and shops because it is small enough to fit. And when it isn’t, it is great that it folds up super small and can be set aside, out of the way, or carried.

2-year guarantee

I also love that it has a guarantee. It’s a pretty big purchase so it’s nice to know that Mountain Buggy has your back if anything goes wrong.

Lay flat mode

Last, but certainly not least, I love the recline in this bad boy. While my child does not often stroller nap, if he does, it is in this pram because of the recline. Because it is adjusted with a strap, I can manipulate the recline to whatever pitch I like and canrecline it smoothly.

Cons:

Hard to fold

My biggest gripe about the Nano is that it takes two hands to close it. This was really inconvenient when I was traveling alone and going through security at the airport. I had to either hold my baby and instruct a kind by-stander on how to fold it or hand my baby over to a nice stranger whilst I fold the pram. While it’s not hard to close, it is hard to instruct someone else how to when someone offers. It isn’t very intuitive so it meant I had to hand my baby to a stranger which is less than ideal. Luckily for me, traveling alone isn’t something I am usually doing. Plus, now that my baby is older and can sit or stand on his own, I can put him down for a moment while I manage the folding.

Fabric basket

We have noticed that the fabric basket at the bottom has started to wear. It catches any and all bumps or curbs. This is understandable but still annoying. It means we can no longer simply toss some small something into the basket for fear of it falling through. We usually keep a small bag in the basket that we can pop things in to mitigate this.

Wheels catch

The wheels constantly catch any little curb. Perhaps I’m being dramatic here but I’ve been concerned about the whiplash I’ve given my kid because of this one. We have to be vigilant and proactive whilst pushing the pram. Otherwise, we get distracted and will hit a crack in the pavement catching the wheels and abruptly stopping the pram.

Overall, we love this travel stroller/travel pram and would still highly recommend it. We understand that to fix the things we don’t like would mean to compromise on the things we do like. To us, the pros far outweigh the cons. Mind you, this is the only travel stroller/travel pram we’ve had but, compared to our bigger Silver Cross stroller/pram, its much better for getting us around while on holiday or out for our day trips.
