Travel can quickly add up and the more kiddos you have in tow, the more impossible it can seem to be able to afford to go anywhere. Luckily, there are some things you can do to help your money go further and your kids can even help! These are my best tips to make family travel more affordable.
Skyscanner
Want to book sometime during the kidsโ school holiday but canโt fathom spending all that money to go on holiday to that popular destination? Let Skyscanner show you where you can go for cheaper! This is exactly how we use Skyscanner. We can tell Skyscanner we want to go somewhere in Europe sometime in July for a week and Skyscanner will list all of the possibilities from cheapest to most expensive! This is actually how we plan a post-Christmas holiday every year as a gift for our family.
Travel credit card
For good reason, travel credit cards have risen in popularity over the years. Travel credit cards earn you points on every transaction you do on that card. Those points can be saved up and later used to pay for travel expenses! We just booked a long weekend to Spain only using points, essentially making our trip free! As long as you are making sure you spend less than you earn and are on top of paying off your balance each month, then there is no downside.
Off-season booking
With kids in school, this one can be a bit tricky, but if you have the flexibility, try booking off-season or just before or after the destinationโs travel season. You will get most all of the same benefits you would during season while getting to skip the crowds and the prices since flights, hotels, and even restaurants will be less in demand.

Hopper
If you know where you want to go and when you want to go there, try Hopper. You can tell Hopper which dates and for which destination you want to go and it will monitor your flights for you. When it sees a good deal, it will let you know so you can go ahead and book!
Open rewards accounts for everyone, including kids!
Rewards accounts often get overlooked, especially if you donโt fly very often, but they can be more of a long-game. If you have 4 people in your family and attach everyoneโs rewards points to your booking, you can earn 4 times the rewards! This can also be a great head-start for kids. If you even take one trip a year but attach your childโs rewards account to every booking, that will add up over the years and you can give them their account full of points when theyโre older!
